Students Who Believe Intelligence Can Be Developed Perform Better
Two studies that followed junior high students have demonstrated that students who believe intelligence can be developed may improve their math achievement. In each study, which each involved two groups of 12-year-olds, one group believed that intelligence could be expanded. This group in both studies showed improvement in math achievement over time. The findings underscore the importance of students' beliefs about their efforts and the need to strengthen motivation and achievement.

Refusal Of Medical And Surgical Interventions Common Among Chronically
Chronically ill older persons frequently refuse medical and surgical interventions recommended by their physicians, according to a recent study by Yale School of Medicine researchers. The study suggests that physicians continue to recommend invasive or risky interventions for people with advanced illness despite the patient's view that these treatments may be too burdensome, or that the treatment doesn't fit with their goals of care.

Men And Women Differ In Brain Use During Same Tasks
New research from the University of Alberta shows that men and women utilize different parts of their brains while they perform the same tasks. The results of the research are reported this month in the journal NeuroImage. The study involved volunteers who performed memory tasks, verbal tasks, visual spatial tasks and simple motor tasks while their brain activity was monitored with functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) technology.
