... LII Tip of the Week: Forthcoming New Site Imminent
Believe it or not, September, 2005 is the month LII will finally, realio-trulio, actually-factually, move to its brand-new site. We stayed in beta for a long time in order to address problems that cropped up during the development activities. We have no wiggle room any more--for technical reasons, we must move to the new site by September 30--but we are also, finally, almost done. We don't know just what the magic day will be, but we know it will be in September. Stay tuned!

Cholesterol-lowering Drugs And The Risk Of Hemorrhagic Stroke
People taking cholesterol-lowering drugs such as atorvastatin after a stroke may be at an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke, or bleeding in the brain, a risk not found in patients taking statins who have never had a stroke.

The disruption of a molecular bridge that holds together the molecule p53 tends to destabilize this protein, allowing it to form potentially disease-causing aggregates, or "clumps,"according to a study by investigators at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Blogger Ideology: Enough Already
We hear it all the time -- new media is not like old media. We agree -- it's not, but one thing hasn't changed, and that's the profit motive. In Beyond the Beyond.

Frequent Yeast Infections May Be Linked To Certain Vaginal Bacteria Ec
The microbial ecosystem of the human vagina varies greatly among women. Those differences can lead to conditions that, if not diagnosed and treated correctly, may leave some women susceptible to a range of infections, including sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV. The research team compared the type of vaginal bacteria in a representative group of Caucasian and black women in North America. Three major findings emerged from the study: there are at least eight kinds of normal vaginal bacterial communities, each community is different, and, among the eight kinds of communities, some bacterial communities are unique to one or the other racial group.

Protein 'Bar Code' In Spinal Fluid Could Lead To First Diagnostic Test
Scientists collaborating at Cornell University in Ithaca and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City have identified a panel of 23 protein biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid that acts as a neurochemical "fingerprint,"which doctors might use someday to identify patients living with Alzheimer's disease. The research will be published in the December online edition of the journal Annals of Neurology.
