Viagra Used In Stroke Recovery Study Henry Ford Hospital has launched a safety study using the drug Viagra to determine if it can help patients recover from a stroke. The study, launched this week and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, aims to help individuals regain or improve motor and speech skills as well as cognitive thinking. Viagra, or sildenafil, is a commonly prescribed drug for erectile dysfunction. Study Of Domesticated Foxes Reveals Changes In Gene Expression As A Ba By comparing foxes selected for tameness with others that have not been selected in this way, researchers have found evidence that dramatic behavioral and physiological changes accompanying tameness may be associated with only limited changes in gene activity in the brain. Protein Delivered Via Genetically Engineered Virus Slowed Glioblasoma Researchers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have found that a small protein called hsFlt3L delivered via a genetically engineered virus increased the number of immune cells in the brain and significantly slowed tumor growth, increasing the survival of laboratory rats in pre-clinical studies. The study, published in the December issue of the journal, Molecular Therapy, may lead to a new way to treat patients with GBM. [Ironic] An Italian pensioner committed suicide after his wife fell in Recalling the end of Romeo and Juliet, the 70-year-old man, Ettore, who had sat by his wife's bedside for four months after she slipped into a coma following a heart attack, finally gave up hope and gassed himself in the garage of his family home.Less than a day later, his wife, Rossana, woke up in her hospital bed in Padua and immediately asked for him. Protein's Role In Lipid Absorption May Be Im Researchers have foundthat a protein absorbs lipids in the upper part of the intestine, and they believe its key role in this process may provide a novel approach for obesity treatment in the future. Researchers Reverse Key Symptom Of Muscular Dystrophy Researchers have identified a compound that eliminates myotonia -- a symptom of muscular dystrophy -- in mice. Scientists were able to design a synthetic RNA-based molecule that, when injected into mice with myotonic dystrophy, restored a critical cellular mechanism, or pathway, that controls electrical activity in muscles. In people with the disease, this function is essentially disabled and muscle cells cannot relax properly. The researchersfound that once this pathway was re-established, normal muscle function returned.
