Bethania is a town located in Forsyth County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 354.

Geography

\nBethania is located at 36°11'4" North, 80°20'5" West (36.184418, -80.334786)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

\nAs of the census of 2000, there are 354 people, 139 households, and 111 families residing in the town. The population density is 189.8/km² (490.0/mi²). There are 148 housing units at an average density of 79.4/km² (204.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 81.92% White, 15.82% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.98% from two or more races. 2.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 139 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.8% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.1% are non-families. 15.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 2.84. In the town the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 29.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males. The median income for a household in the town is $51,875, and the median income for a family is $55,357. Males have a median income of $45,500 versus $27,813 for females. The per capita income for the town is $25,702. 8.3% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.7% are under the age of 18 and 9.3% are 65 or older.
