Bone Marrow Restores Fertility In Female Mice, Study Confirms A new study confirms that female mice that receive bone marrow transplantation after fertility-destroying chemotherapy can go on to have successful pregnancies throughout their normal reproductive life. The report verifies that donor marrow can restore fertility in mice through an as-yet unidentified mechanism. While donor-derived oocytes were observed in the ovaries of marrow recipients, all pups born were from the recipients'own eggs. Enhancing The Healthful Properties Of Silkworms The search for a food that can be enriched with healthful conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has taken an unlikely twist -- straight toward the silkworm. An international group of scientists is reporting success in producing high-CLA silkworms. Green Catalyst Destroys Pesticides And Munitions Toxins, Finds Carnegi A chemical catalyst developed at Carnegie Mellon University completely destroys dangerous nitrophenols in laboratory tests, report researchers at the 230th meeting of the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C. Nitrophenols are man-made pollutants that mostly originate from wastewater discharges from the dye, pesticide and ammunition industries. Thousands of tons of these agents are produced yearly, and they are registered as priority pollutants by the EPA. Many of these compounds cannot be destroyed by existing means. "It is a maternal instinct to protect your child to the very end."Katherine Smith, 22, died Thursday after luring Brady to her apartment to pick up a package supposedly delivered to the wrong address. When Smith pulled out a knife and attacked the pregnant woman, Brady fought back, striking Smith on the head with an ash tray and stabbing her three times with her own knife, police said. Brady, 26, said she didn't know Smith before the two met at Smith's apartment and can't be certain why Smith wanted to kill her."I really am not sure what was going through her mind,"Brady told ABC.
