Obsession With Weight May Not Be Tied To An Eating Disorder In a new study on Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) -- a distressing or impairing preoccupation with an imagined or slight defect in one's appearance -- researchers from Bradley Hospital and Brown Medical School found that individuals who are concerned about their weight are more impaired than those whose appearance-concerns are not weight-related. This is particularly important, as weight-related preoccupations have at times not been considered diagnostic of BDD. Specific Neurons Involved In Memory Formation Identified Scientists have unlocked one of the secrets of how memory is formed. Working with a unique breed of transgenic mice, the new study has shown for the first time that the same neurons activated during fear conditioning are, in fact, reactivated during memory retrieval. The findings could potentially be used to uncover precisely how drugs such as antidepressants work in the brain, allowing clinicians to more accurately evaluate various treatment options.
