Many Insomniacs Turn To Valerian And Melatonin To Help Them Sleep
A study published in the July 1 issue of the journal SLEEP finds that large segments of the US population use valerian or melatonin to treat their insomnia. New Finding Points Way To Foiling Anthrax's Tricks
Anthrax, when inhaled, is nearly always fatal, in part because the bacteria have a very effective way of stealing iron from human cells to reproduce. This involves two molecules, siderophores, that compete with the body's own iron-transport molecules. UC Berkeley researchers have now found that humans produce a protein that sidelines one of these siderophores, but not the other. A drug that blocks the second siderophore should be able to stop anthrax in its tracks. Morphology Of Fossil Salamanders Reflects Climate Change
A fossil record of the Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum) shows population-wide changes in body size and morphology in response to climate change over the last 3,000 years. But it will demonstrate technologies that a lunar rover will need to find concentrations of hydrogen, possibly water and other volatile chemicals on the moon that could be mined to produce fuel, water and air that are essential for supporting lunar outposts.
