Use Of Non-COX-2-specific NSAIDs Halves Odds For Oral Cancer: Doubles An analysis of 20 years of data on the health of over 900 adults has found that long-term use of traditional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen and naproxen, cuts the risk for oral cancer in smokers by half. New Field-deployable Biosensor Detects Avian Influenza Virus In Minute Quick identification of avian influenza infection in poultry is critical to controlling outbreaks, but current detection methods can require several days to produce results. A new biosensor can detect avian influenza in just minutes. In addition to being a rapid test, the biosensor is economical, field-deployable, sensitive to different viral strains and requires no labels or reagents. Largest Single-institution Study Demonstrates Mammosite Is A Safe Brea Treating breast cancer with MammoSiteŽ resulted in a low risk of complications and was generally well tolerated, according to a University of Pittsburgh study. The study, presented at the 47th annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), Oct. 16 to 20, also evaluated cosmetic outcome of treatment with MammoSite and found that it was comparable to that of standard external beam radiation. Risk Of Preterm Birth Appears To Vary By Season; Women Who Conceive In Women who become pregnant in spring are more vulnerable to preterm birth than those who conceive in other seasons, according to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh. Results of perhaps the largest study of such seasonal variation in preterm birth, or birth prior to 37 weeks gestation, are being presented at the 27th annual meeting of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, being held Feb. 5-10 at the Hilton San Francisco and Towers in California.
