Carignane

Carignane (Spanish Cariņeņa, Italian Carignano) is a Spanish variety of grape that originated in Cariņena, Aragon and was later transplanted to Sardinia. When grown on a slope, to lower the yield, it produces a wine with good body, color, and character with a characeristic harshness and astringency that diminishes with age. It is often blended with Cinsaut, Grenache, Syrah, Cabernets, and/or merlot. It has an upright growth habit and can be grown without a trellis.

Researchers found that people with a larger waist-to-hip ratio may be at increased risk for heart disease. Calcium was more likely to be found in the arteries of patients with the greatest waist-to-hip ratio, the researchers discovered. People with the largest waist-to-hip ratio had a twofold increase in the incidence of calcium deposits ?a strong indicator of future cardiovascular ailments including heart attacks.
