Carrier frequency

Carrier frequency is the fundamental frequency used in both amplitude modulation and frequency modulation i.e. it is the frequency which is modulated and is the frequency to which a receiver should be tuned in order to demodulate the information signal.

In a sense, the carrier frequency "carries" the information.

Cigarette Smoke, Alcohol Damage Hearts Worse As Combo
A new study shows that taking in smoky air and drinking alcohol basically nullify any potential heart benefit from drinking alcohol by itself. Researchers found that mice exposed to smoky air and fed a liquid diet containing ethanol, the intoxicating ingredient in alcohol, had a 4.7-fold increase in artery lesions, a key sign of advancing heart disease.

Google Sponsors Lunar X PRIZE To Create A Space Race For A New Generat
The X PRIZE Foundation and Google Inc. announced on September 13 the Google Lunar X PRIZE, a robotic race to the Moon to win a $30 million prize purse. Private companies from around the world will compete to land a privately funded robotic rover on the Moon that is capable of completing several mission objectives, including roaming the lunar surface for at least 500 meters and sending video, images and data back to the Earth.

Honey Bee Chemoreceptors Found For Smell And Taste
Honey bees have a much better sense of smell than fruit flies or mosquitoes, but a much worse sense of taste, according to researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Steroid Medications Don't Work In Treating Lower Respiratory Infection
The use of steroid medication to treat bronchiolitis -- a common viral lower respiratory infection in infants -- does not prevent hospitalization or improve their respiratory symptoms, according to a recent study. The findings resolve controversy from prior research and are expected to help guide treatment for the most common cause of infant hospitalization.

Pilot Plant On Stream To Turn Manure Into Usable Energy
The Alberta Research Council (ARC) and Highmark Renewables have marked the official opening of a new pilot plant at Highland Feeders, one of Canada's largest feedlot operations. The plant demonstrates new technology developed jointly by ARC and Highmark Renewables to transform manure into energy, bio-based fertilizers and reusable water, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts associated with land application of manure.

Study Finds Few Differences In Quality Of Life Between Boys And Girls
As scholars debate who's ahead in the so-called gender war, a new study from Duke University finds that American boys and girls today are faring almost equally well across key indicators of education, health, safety and risky behavior.

Cancer Can Be Detected By Scanning Surface Veins
Researchers have developed technology to detect tumor cells within the human body. By shining a laser on surface veins, such as those on the wrist and inside the cheek, researchers are able to reveal and count circulating tumor cells. The new detection method is able to evaluate a much larger volume of blood than what can be drawn from a patient for analysis, said one of the scientists.

New Synthetic Version Of Clot Preventing Drug Heparin Created
Researchers have patented a synthetic version of the drug heparin, called Recomparin, that is less complex chemically and should be easier to produce than previous forms. Heparin is most commonly used to prevent clots from forming and restricting the flow of blood during and after procedures such as kidney dialysis, heart-bypass surgery, stent implantation and knee and hip replacement. The annual worldwide sales of heparin are estimated at $3 billion.

Promising Treatment Target Found In Hodgkin Lymphoma
Scientists have identified a protein that prevents the body's immune system from recognizing and attacking Hodgkin lymphoma cells. Based on this finding, the researchers are now investigating targeted therapies to disable this molecular "bodyguard"and boost a patient's ability to fight the blood cancer.
