Bad Outcomes Related To, But Not Caused By, Misdosing Of Clotbusters I The deaths or clinical complications in heart attack patients given potent drugs to re-open clogged arteries is more likely to be due to individual patient characteristics than to modest misdosing of the drugs, researchers from the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) have determined. Thus, they said, physicians should not be overly worried about the possibility of minor errors in dosing -- a concern that the Duke physicians said likely contributes to insufficient prescribing of the drugs to treat heart attacks. Unnoticed Mutation In AIDS Virus Can Cause Drug Resistance A mutation in a little-studied structural region of the AIDS virus can cause resistance to several HIV drugs, according to a study. Several mutations in reverse transcriptase (RT), the viral enzyme that copies the genes of HIV, are already known to cause drug resistance and are routinely detected in blood tests used by physicians to individualize HIV treatment.
