Some Key Laboratory Breast Cancer Cell Lines Are, Indeed, Good Models
In this era of molecular medicine, controversy among cancer researchers is increasing as to whether the laboratory cells they study -- and upon which human treatment is based -- accurately reflect the biology of "real"tumors growing in a person's body.

Indigenous Water Frogs In Europe Under Threat
Indigenous water frogs can be crowded out by immigrant or imported species. This is the finding of a Franco-German study. The scientists investigated water frog populations in France and Northern Spain and noticed that the marsh frog (Rana ridibunda), which normally occurs only in Eastern Europe, has the potential to crowd out indigenous species like Graf's hybrid frog (Rana grafi) and the Iberian water frog (Rana perezi).

The result suggests chimpanzees developed this behaviour on their own, or even that stone tool use was a trait inherited from our common ancestor.

Disrupting Common Parasites'Ability To 'Talk'To Each Other Reduces Inf
One of the most common human parasites, Toxoplasma gondii, uses a hormone lifted from the plant world to decide when to increase its numbers and when to remain dormant, researchers have found. Scientists report that they successfully blocked production of the molecule, known as abscisic acid, with a plant herbicide. Low herbicide doses prevented fatal T. gondii infection in mice.
