Clydesdale Bank

The Clydesdale Bank, founded in 1838, is a major Scottish bank which since 1987 has been part of the National Australia Bank group.

The bank pioneered the use of mobile branches in remote areas of Scotland, cheque guarantee cards, and personal loans. It is one of three Scottish banks which continue to issue their own banknotes.

Improved Molecular Switch Could Serve As Sensor, Medical Tool
Improving significantly on an early prototype, Johns Hopkins University researchers have found a new way to join two unrelated proteins to create a molecular switch, a nanoscale "device"in which one biochemical partner controls the activity of the other. Lab experiments have demonstrated that the new switch performs 10 times more effectively than the early model and that its "on-off"effect is repeatable.

A drug to treat colon cancer is proving much more convenient than traditional chemotherapy, has fewer side effects - and a study of almost 2,000 patients has shown it is giving them a better chance of surviving the disease. The oral chemotherapy drug offers fewer side-effects and less time in hospital -- and the trial has shown that patients given the drug were at least as likely to be alive and free of their disease as those on standard chemotherapy.
