Most Adults With Conditions That Increase Cardiovascular Disease Risk Nearly three-fourths of American adults with conditions such as coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes or others that raise their risk for cardiovascular complications also have hypertension (high blood pressure), according to a new report. Although about 75 percent of these individuals are being treated for hypertension, only one-third to one-half are reaching blood pressure goals. New Finding May Aid Adult Stem Cell Collection Cincinnati scientists have discovered how blood-regenerating stem cells move from bone marrow into the blood stream. The finding has led to the development of a new chemical compound that can accelerate this process (called stem cell mobilization) in mice--which could eventually lead to more efficient stem cell harvesting for human use. Solar Energy: Charged For The Future Once regarded as costly and impractical, solar technology is now poised to play a larger role in the future thanks to new developments that could result in lower costs and improved efficiency. Potential applications include cell phones, computers, automobiles, homes and office buildings. More than 28 papers on this topic will be presented during a three-day symposium Sept. 10-12 in San Francisco at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society. Stonehenge Settlement Found: Builders' Homes, "Cult Houses" This January 2007 news release explains how "a major prehistoric village has been unearthed near Stonehenge in southern England."The settlement is believed to be housing for the builders of the famous monument and a ceremonial site.
