Glycemic Index Values Are Surprisingly Variable, Researchers Report Researchers are reporting that multiple glycemic index value determinations using a simple test food, white bread, resulted in a relatively high level of inter-individual and intra-individual variability. Further studies will focus on better defining the magnitude and the sources of the variability. The intent is to better understand how glycemic index relates to chronic disease risk in a range of individuals. New Algorithm Matches Any Tumor Cells To Best Possible Anticancer Trea An algorithm that could help rapidly sort molecular information about a cancer patient's particular tumor and could help match this information to the right drug treatment would be a breakthrough of enormous value. Two researchers have just pioneered just such a system. Using a panel of 60 diverse, human cancer cell lines from the National Cancer Institute (NCI-60), the researchers devised and tested an algorithm designed to match the best potential treatment(s) for a particular tumor in a particular patient. And it brings scientists another step closer to the goal of creating replacement parts for damaged human hearts. A new paper describes a new way to grow bioengineered heart muscle, or BEHM, that acts more like natural muscle than ever before achieved.
