Dental consonant

Dentals are consonants articulated with either the lower or the upper teeth, or both.

Examples:

  • English th in this (SAMPA [D]), or English th in thing (SAMPA [T]) are dental fricatives.

  • In French, Italian, and Spanish t, d, n, and l are all dental, whereas they're alveolar in English.

Structural biologists have described the architecture of the complex of protein units that make up the coat surrounding the HIV genome and identified in it a "seam" of functional importance that previously went unrecognized. Enzyme Triggers Plaque Rupture In Hardened Arteries, Causing Heart Att
University of Washington researchers show that, in mice with atherosclerosis, it is the expression of an active form of the enzyme MMP-9, by macrophages located within plaque buildup in narrowed coronary arteries, that triggers plaque rupture. Rupture can block blood flow to the heart and brain, causing a heart attack or stroke. The results appear online on December 22 in advance of print publication in the January 2006 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Nanotech In Space: New Experiment To Weather The Trials Of Orbit
Novel nanomaterials are scheduled to blast off into orbit on November 16 aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis. The project seeks to test the performance of the new nanocomposites in orbit. The materials will be mounted to the International Space Station's outer hull and exposed to the rigors of space.
