Dubious historical resources

The following is a canon of historical resources (often cited as though they were completely historically accurate) which may well be open to a considerable degree of question and must be used with the greatest of care:

The following could be included on the list, but is rather more of a humorous book than a historical resource, containing deliberately mangled history. Also in citing historical resources keep in mind that what may generally regarded as truth by one generation of historians, may become extremely controversial by the next generation, who may not only have more complete facts, but may also be looking at the situation with a different set of historical biases. Case in point, lots of things that have been written about the History of China, in particular the post-Song "decline", anything about Zheng He, the 1911 revolution, the interaction between China and Europe in the 19th century, the interaction between China and Europe before the 19th century.

Vaginal Cancer Detected More Often With PET Than CT Scans
In patients with vaginal cancer, PET scans detected twice as many primary tumors and cancerous lymph nodes as did CT (computed tomography) scans, according to researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. At this time, however, Medicaid, Medicare and many private insurers specify CT for diagnosing and monitoring this cancer. The researchers hoping to encourage a change in that standard report their comparison of the two methods in the July 1 issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology.

Researchers Explain Why Badger Culling Fails To Control Cattle Tubercu
Researchers have discovered the most likely reason why localised culling of badgers (Meles meles) has failed to control bovine tuberculosis (TB) in British cattle. Published online by the British Ecological Society's Journal of Applied Ecology, the study reveals that even though culling reduces badger population density, it alters their behaviour in such a way as to increase spread of the disease. The findings have major implications for future strategies to control TB in cattle.
