Jefferson Researchers Find Timing Of Post-epilepsy Surgery Seizures Pr Timing often matters when it comes to epileptic seizures that can occur after surgery designed to stop them. A multicenter study led by researchers at Jefferson Medical College has found that patients who had an initial seizure within the first four months of surgery were less likely to do as well in the long term as those individuals who did not. 'Bionic'Nerve To Bring Damaged Limbs And Organs Back To Life University of Manchester researchers have transformed fat tissue stem cells into nerve cells -- and now plan to develop an artificial nerve that will bring damaged limbs and organs back to life. In a study published in October's Experimental Neurology, Dr Paul Kingham and his team at the UK Centre for Tissue Regeneration isolated the stem cells from the fat tissue of adult animals and differentiated them into nerve cells to be used for repair and regeneration of injured nerves. They are now about to start a trial extracting stem cells from fat tissue of volunteer adult patients, in order to compare in the laboratory human and animal stem cells. In a study published last year in Nature, researchers at The Wistar Institute identified the earliest steps in the creation of miRNAs in the cell nucleus. Now, in a new Nature study, the Wistar group picks up the process in the cell cytoplasm and tracks it through to the maturation of the finished miRNAs.
