How to read brain activity with an EEG The electroencephalogram is widely used by physicians and scientists to study brain function and to diagnose neurological disorders. However, it has remained largely unknown whether the electrodes on the head give an exact view of what is happening inside the brain. Scientists have now found a crucial link between the activity generated within the brain to that measured with EEG. Man-made Proteins Could Be More Useful Than Real Ones Researchers have constructed a protein out of amino acids not found in natural proteins, forming a complex, stable structure closely resembling a natural protein. Their findings could help scientists design drugs that look and act like real proteins but won't be degraded by enzymes or targeted by the immune system, as natural proteins are. Nosespray Vaccine Using Aloe Vera Has Exciting Potential, Researcher S Researchers are participating in developing a medicine that is worth sneezing about: a treatment for influenza that forms a jelly when sprayed into the nose. EU Research Suggests That PCBs Damage Sperm -- But Finds No Dramatic E Research by an EU-supported international team of scientists has show polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) -- synthetic organic chemicals found widely in the environment and absorbed in the diet -- may damage sperm. The study, reported in Human Reproduction (Thursday 13 October), found no dramatic effects on human fertility and did not reveal any serious public health threat. Patients With Disease, Cancer Of The Esophagus Benefit From New Techni Surgeons at the Oregon Health &Science University Digestive Health Center have developed a new technique that makes feasible and safe a potentially lifesaving and noninvasive surgical procedure known as laparoscopic esophagectomy. Until now, the procedure was considered too technically demanding for most surgeons to perform.
