Tooth Fairy Rule

Among science fiction writers, there is a concept called the Tooth Fairy Rule, which states that you can only invoke a mysterious outside force (the tooth fairy, for example) to explain the unexplainable once in a story. Otherwise, you can't really expect to maintain suspension of disbelief.

Other writers are more strict, for example Isaac Asimov in the introduction to Asimov's Mysteries.

The above may be viewed a kind of rule of thumb.

Workplace Depression Screening And Enhanced Treatment Improves Product
Enhanced and systematic efforts to identify and treat depression in the workplace significantly improves employee health and productivity, likely leading to lower costs overall for the employer, according to a new study. Nanofabrication Method Paves Way For New Optical Devices
An innovative and inexpensive way of making nanomaterials on a large scale has resulted in novel forms of advanced materials that pave the way for exceptional and unexpected optical properties. These include optical nanomaterials called "plasmonic metamaterials."The new fabrication technique, known as soft lithography, offers many significant advantages over existing techniques, including the ability to scale-up the manufacturing process to produce devices in large quantities.

Breakthrough In Nanodevice Synthesis Revolutionizes Biological Sensors
A novel approach to synthesizing nanowires (NWs) allows their direct integration with microelectronic systems for the first time, as well as their ability to act as highly sensitive biomolecule detectors that could revolutionize biological diagnostic applications, according to a report in Nature. Not only can the NWs detect as few as 1000 individual molecules in a cubic millimeter, they can do it without any added fluorescent or radioactive probes.

Fantastic Voyage Into The Heart Delivers A Protector Against Heart Fai
